Designing effective presentations

Presentation programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Apple Keynote can be much more than basic bulleted list managers. ATS staff are available to present tips and techniques to leverage a basic knowledge of PowerPoint or Keynote. Participants will learn specific suggestions that have proven to elevate the memorability of a presentation. In these presentations, we examine the organization, style, and delivery formats of presentations. This session is appropriate for Mac and Windows users of PowerPoint and Mac users of Keynote.

Prerequisites

This is not an introduction to PowerPoint or to Keynote. Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote. Specifically, users should be able to manage a presentation of multiple slides.

Objectives

In this session, participants will understand:
  • the differences between a computer slide show and a printed handout
  • how to make a non-linear presentation with strong visual associations
  • how to make a computer-based presentation interactive
